Grant-supported Internship at the Archive of Digital Art

Paid internship at the Archive of Digital Art (ADA)/Lab for Digital Humanities, Department for Image Science, Danube University Krems. Join us to engage in the new ADA project!

The Lab for Digital Humanities, Danube University Krems offers a position as intern from Jan-Feb 2019. The student will support project work for the Archive of Digital Art (ADA).. The project is grant-supported DARIAH-ERIC/DARIAH Working Groups.


ADA ( is a pioneering archive in the field of Media Art and its histories, founded in 1999. It is the only archival project to document the aesthetics, subject as well as technology of Digital Art and “houses” an est. 50.000 individual objects of cultural data. Today, ADA continues its mission as a “living archive” for Community Science, representing user-generated content from over 600 Members from across the globe through Social Web 2.0 and Semantic Web 3.0 features.

We are looking for a student with a strong interest in Media Art, its infrastructures and working within the higher education sector. Applicants should be creative and self-motivated problem solvers who enjoy collaborating in a team setting to co-create concepts and the execution thereof for online art archiving projects, social software infrastructures and transdisciplinary research methods.

- Work with the Lab for Digital Humanities team to create, manage and edit ADA profiles
- Undertake research, and assist team in information gathering prior to new tasks
- Conduct documentation of historical and contemporary art on ADA and other online platforms
- Support the team in administrative activities

- Knowledge of Media Art Institutions
- Currently enrolled as BA or MA student in Art History, Media Art Histories, Digital Humanities or a related field
- willingness to learn
- Good communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Wordpress and database management (not required)

We offer a pleasant working environment at Danube University Krems, located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau, where valuable practical experience for further study and future professional life can be acquired.

Interns must be available for an 8-week internship starting on Jan 8th at Danube University Krems. A reimbursement of around € 430/month ( 10h/week). Students have the option to expand hours for an additional credited internship for study programs at the respective home university.

Academic Traineeship at Dept. of Image Science


The Department of Image Science of the Danube University Krems offerstraneeships for students as part of their university education. Students enrolled or graduated outside Austria are eligible to apply for Erasmus+ Traineeship or Credit Mobility to support living and travel costs.

The traineeship provides deeper experience and and practical implementation in the theoretical knowledge acquired in university, among other things by insight into structure and workflow in research projects (Digital Humanities, Archives and Documentation).

Overview of potential tasks include: participating in innovative database and interdisciplinary research projects, an interesting variety of research activities, gaining insight into the archiving and documentation of historical and contemporary art, administrative activities, and more.


We offer an interesting and pleasant working environment at Danube University Krems, located in the UNESCO World Hertiage Site Wachau, where valuable practical experience for further study and future professional life can be acquired in singular surroundings.

Since this is a voluntary service, no fee can be offered. Applicants from outside Austria are encouraged to apply for Erasmus+ funds.


The traineeship timing and duration is flexible. Usual duration is 4-8 weeks.
