Since 2006, the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Preventive Medicine has been responsible for conducting medical-university research and continuing education in all clinical areas of neurosciences and preventive medicine. Today, clinical neuroscience is a research focus for a number of postgraduate universities. This is necessary to keep pace with the growth of knowledge in research and clinical practice, but also to meet the medical and social needs of the growing incidence and prevalence rates of neurological diseases. Preventive medicine is an area that is neglected in basic medical training, but is an indispensable part of clinical work. Prevention is therefore also a postgraduate focus. Preventive measures are intended to prevent the development of diseases, promote the early detection of diseases and minimize the consequences of existing diseases. The Department therefore aims to carry out research and further training in these areas and to implement them in an Austrian and European context.

 

General job description and profile:

The tasks of the university professor include the dedicated representation of the field of clinical neuroscience in research, development and teaching. Further focal points are the preparation of research proposals and clinical studies, the national and international networking of existing neuroscientific research projects, the establishment of international postgraduate study programs in the field of clinical neuroscience and the co-supervision of the Master's study programs of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and Preventive Medicine.

 

Your profile:

To be considered for the position, the following selection criteria must be met:

  • Completed university studies in the field of human medicine
  • Completed specialist training in neurology
  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification (according to the guidelines of the UWK) in the field of neurology
  • At least 5 years of clinical professional experience in the relevant field after completing special-ist training 
  • Proven, relevant research and publication activity in the field of clinical neuroscience
  • Proof of successful acquisition of third-party funding (peer-reviewed) for research projects 
  • Networking in the relevant scientific community (cooperation projects and publications, participation in scientific societies, etc.) 
  • Experience and high didactic aptitude in university teaching, proven by teaching evaluations, as well as moderation at congresses and invited lectures
  • Very good written and spoken German and English language skills corresponding to B2 level
  • Willing to contribute to the overall goals of the university and their implementation, e.g. through participation in university committees
  • Leadership experience and management skills in social, organizational and economic terms 
  • Equality and diversity competence is required or, if not available, the willingness to complete appropriate further 
  • Experience in the conception, development and management of university teaching 
  • Knowledge of the Austrian and international university and non-university education and research fields


Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in university administration, self-administration and committee work
  • Sound communication and teamwork skills as well as conflict resolution skills
  • Experience as a mentor 
  • Experience in supervising students for final theses such as Master's theses and dissertations

The remuneration for this Professorship will be EUR 6,362.50 € gross per month, on a full-time basis (according to the collective agreement of the universities §49 VwGr. A1). A willingness to negotiate higher salary exists for candidates with corresponding qualifications and professional experience.
