The field of "Continence and Stoma Counseling" focuses on individuals in need of nursing care and counseling with a stoma or operative urinary diversion, as well as those with continence disorders. In the Certificate Program, students acquire competencies for comprehensive, activating care for the affected individuals. They are trained in assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of nursing interventions, including documentation, initiation of situation-appropriate immediate measures, and nursing actions in emergency situations. In the second phase, the Expert Program, students gain the skills to inform, instruct, educate, and advise individuals, family members, or caregivers on diagnostic and therapeutic measures. They also acquire the ability to plan and organize transitional care and discharge management. The completion of the first phase (Certificate Program) is considered equivalent to the advanced training in "Continence and Stoma Counseling" according to § 64 of the Health and Nursing Care Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 108/1997, as amended by Federal Law Gazette I No. 87/2016) in Austria.
