Description

PASSAT aims to pave the way for the establishment of a data-service ecosystem in Austria to enable digital product passports (DPP) to support a sustainable, circular economy in multiple domains. A DPP is a collection of data linked to a specific product, describing its properties and current state, and accompanying it throughout and after its operation time. The passport’s goal is to support sustainability and circularity, with participation from all actors along the supply chain. Data stored in the passport supports informed decision making and a circular economy, helps to fulfil requirements for regulatory compliance and enables new, data-driven business models. Data for a DPP originates from various sources, necessitating an underlying and standardized data exchange ecosystem to ease collaboration within the value chain and throughout the complete product lifecycle. PASSAT will focus on areas covered by the upcoming EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) as well as product groups with a particularly large environmental impact. To include a broad range of requirements and showcase the impact of DPPs in different use cases, PASSAT will implement DPPs in two different product groups of interest to the call (textile, electronics) as well as at least one additional use case (skies) emphasising its transferability beyond the product groups.PASSAT will develop concepts, components which are interoperable with international standards for digital product passports and data spaces, adapted to the needs of the Austrian industry. It will be designed and implemented as part of a co-creation process with the participation of different stakeholders (industry, academia, public sector) and in collaboration with related initiatives, such as Manufacturing-X. A set of minimal requirements to achieve a certain degree of interoperability will be defined as an intermediate form of standardization. The international aspect of the project will be further strengthened by collaborations with Germany, as foreseen via additional support by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and PASSAT’s close ties to related European initiatives.
