Family law has changed and become more complex than almost any other area of law in recent years and decades. In addition to the traditional matters of marriage and child custody law, questions of fundamental rights protection, protection against violence, partner relationships of unmarried persons as well as questions of private international law and aspects of European Union law have emerged. The new challenges in family law concern, for example, issues such as patchwork families, diversity, marriage for all, as well as questions arising from relationship dynamics or mediation and negotiation processes within family structures.
