Olga Kolokytha

The Arts and Cultural Management Conference ACMC takes place in Vienna from September 26th to October 1st, 2023, focusing on the topic of cultural management in conflict and context. The conference is organized by the Central European University in collaboration with C'MAN.

Olga Kolokytha - academic director of the Master in Arts programs “Music Management” and “Music for Applied Media" at the Center for Applied Music Research at the University of Krems for Continuing Education and her colleague Eva-Maria Bauer were invited to hold lectures on September 27, 2023.

Olga Kolokytha opened the conference day on September 27th with a keynote speech on the role of art and culture in times of crisis and conflict. In the following panel discussion “Arts and culture, soft power on the world stage” she talked about culture's diplomatic impact from a global perspective and about her experiences as a cultural manager in Europe-wide projects. Afterwards, the treatment of artists from Russia in particular was the subject of controversial discussions by audience and panel participants.

The afternoon program was dedicated to specific projects in a cultural-political context. In her one-hour lecture “Fair Pay – Fair Play? The Austrian fairness process as a study in contradiction” Eva-Maria Bauer discussed the term “fair pay” with regard to the music market and talked about challenges, conflicts and successes in the fairness process in Austria, which has been running for three years and is coordinated by the Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport (BMKoes).
