The kick-off meeting for the new Interreg Central Europe project INACO was held in Bologna in mid-June. Members of the international partner organisations took the opportunity to get to know each other and to discuss the specific challenges and objectives of the project.

INACO (Innovative Strategies for the Adoption of Risk Management Plans to enhance the Resilience of sensitive Cultural and Natural Heritage Objectives against Climate Hazards in River Basin Districts) aims to strengthen the resilience of Central European regions to the impacts of climate change. This will be achieved through the development of transnational strategies, integrated web-based solutions and risk management plans.

The project focuses on the protection of cultural and natural heritage sites in river basins, inland watersheds and lake shores threatened by climate change-related risks such as floods, storms, wildfires and droughts. One of the pilot areas is the Po Delta Park in Emilia Romagna, which was visited by the participants of the kick-off meeting to gain valuable insights into the local challenges.

The kick-off meeting started with brief introductions of the partner organisations from Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Croatia and Slovakia. The lead partner CNR ISAC then presented the project objectives, structure and expected results. Claudia Pamperl from the Interreg Central Europe Joint Secretariat outlined the project implementation.

This was followed by a presentation of the eight pilot sites and a closer look at each of the project's work packages and objectives. The day ended with a joint dinner of the INACO partner consortium in the beautiful center of Bologna.

Visit to the Italian pilot site: Po Delta Park Emilia-Romagna

The third day of the meeting was dedicated to the visit of the Italian pilot site Valli di Comacchio in the Po Delta Park Emilia-Romagna. The partners undertook an extensive exploration of the lagoon region. This visit provided valuable insights into the challenges and meaning of the project for the region. The partners gained a first-hand impression of the specific problems facing the region and even had the opportunity to observe flamingos in their natural habitat.
