On Monday 30th September 2024, the Department for Building and Environment held a festive graduation ceremony. The focus of the ceremony was on the graduates of the postgraduate university courses, including three graduates of the Master's Program in Cultural Property Protection: Martina Haselberger, Oliver Fries and Klaus Nedelko successfully completed the three-year Master's Program at the Center for Cultural Property Protection. They now hold the title of Master of Science (MSc) and were honoured with their diplomas.

Throughout their studies, they studied the various challenges of cultural property protection. They acquired in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of the field, studied national and international law, in particular the 1954 Hague Convention, and covered topics such as inventory, museum collections management, architecture, art history and psychological aspects of cultural property protection.
In particular, they were sensitised to the highly topical issues of the destruction of cultural property in armed conflicts and the threat to cultural heritage posed by climate change.

"The protection of cultural heritage is one of the major challenges of the 21st century - our study programs teach how to deal with it professionally."

Dr Anna Kaiser
Head of the Center for Cultural Property Protection

In an increasingly globalised world, the protection of cultural proeprty plays a crucial role. Interdisciplinary approaches are needed to meet the complex challenges.

Despite the growing importance of cultural property protection, our society is not yet sufficiently aware of the need for trained professionals and strategies. Our graduates make an important contribution to preserving cultural heritage for future generations and to establishing cultural property protection as a relevant discipline in society.

In special recognition of their achievements and efforts during their studies, the course director, Dr Anna Kaiser, proudly honoured them with their diplomas.

Congratulations to Martina Haselberger, Oliver Fries and Klaus Nedelko - and to all our graduates - on their achievements! Our best wishes to them for success in their future career challenges in the field of cultural property protection.
