Faulhammer (born 1963) studied law in Vienna. From 1985 to 1990 he worked at the Institute for History of Law at the University of Vienna and at the legal department of the university's directorate. In 1990 he joined the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research where he became the Head of the Department for Universities of Applied Sciences in 2001; from 2003 to 2005 he was Deputy Head at the Department for University Law and actively involved in the implementation of the 2002 Law on Universities. In 2005 he became Head of the Department I at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research and has been its Secretary General since 2009. Among the focal points of his work are new forms of university management as well as European developments and legal affairs in the university sector. Faulhammer is the rector of Danube University Krems since 2013.
