On 1 and 2 June 2017, the first partner meeting of the EU Interreg project NETWORLD took place at the Danube University Krems. The meeting also included the international conference "Protection Measures of the First World War Heritage", organised by the Department for Building and Environment.
On 1 June 2017, more than 40 project partners met at the Danube University Krems to discuss their activities and first results of the working groups "Project Management", "Communication", "Database and Strategy" and "Cultural Tourism".
On 2 June 2017, the international conference also offered the public the opportunity to get to know the NETWORLD project: The World Heritage of the First World War. After the presentation of the project, international experts from different fields spoke about issues related to the protection of the architectural heritage of the First World War. In the afternoon, the conference participants discussed in five sessions the influencing factors that need to be taken into account when developing protection measures and that have international validity.
An excursion to the First World War heritage in Lower Austria took place in the early evening of 2 June to conclude the partners' meeting. The participants drove to Göttweig Abbey to visit the remains of a former defence facility, the so-called "Brückenkopf Krems - Stützpunkt Göttweiger Berg", not far from the abbey. Members of the Verein "Verteidigungsweg 1914" and "Verschönerungsverein Furth" guided the participants through the area and gave an interesting and comprehensive insight into the history of the place.
