On 9 July, the second day of this year's Summer University, around fifty interested children between the ages of eleven and thirteen gathered in the auditorium of the IMC Krems. The programme included a lecture on the protection of cultural property by Dr Anna Kaiser, Head of the Center for Cultural Property Protection.

An exciting day for future cultural property protectors! The content covered a wide range of topics:

The lecture started with the question: "What is cultural property? The young students heard about the importance of cultural property to people and their everyday lives, and how much it represents our history and cultures - from old paintings and historic buildings to traditional customs and stories. But it was not only the positive aspects that were highlighted. The children also learned that there are many threats to cultural heritage, whether from natural disasters, war or neglect. The young students had a lively discussion about how they could help to protect these precious treasures.

The presentation was interactive and lively and the young students were very interested in the topic. It was clear to see how interested and engaged they were - particularly evident in the many questions and contributions to the discussion that were asked and raised during the course of the lecture.

At the end of the day, the plenary session was asked what each of them would consider to be particularly worthy of protection - this question was also met with great interest and provided an exciting insight into the reception of what they had just learned.

Upon successful completion of the lecture, the young students were awarded the coveted "I am a cultural property protector" button.

The IMC Krems (University of Applied Sciences Krems) offers kids interested in research the opportunity to gain new experiences and get a taste of university life through lectures and workshops on various fields of knowledge.
