Description

In this project, we will assess whether oxidatively modified proteins and lipids, which play key roles in systemic inflammatory reactions, can be targeted by extracorporeal therapies. Damage-associated molecular patterns, such as histones, which are released by activated neutrophil granulocytes, will also be examined for their biological effects and their depletion by extracorporeal therapies will be studied. Finally, we will isolate and characterize antimicrobial peptides that are released during neutrophil activation.
