Technologies of yesterday and today for tomorrow

What was once considered science fiction is increasingly becoming reality. Emerging technologies such as adaptive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, visual representation and decentralized databases are transforming our world. But how can these complex technologies be understood and applied in a meaningful way? This course provides an in-depth understanding of the social dimensions and potential applications of technologies over time.

In dealing with these topics, the main focus will be on the following perspectives:

  • Emerging Technologies & Society: Students explore the theoretical foundations of "emerging technologies" and engage with selected "emerging technologies" themselves. On this basis, they discuss and critically reflect upon the social effects and ethical implications of new technologies.
  • Recent Developments in Emerging Technologies: Students examine current developments in potentially far-reaching emerging technologies in depth in order to evaluate their significance, potential and limitations.
  • Individual Perspectives: Students carry out an independent project in the field of „Emerging Technologies", related to their own current or aspired professional practice.
