Welcome to the Department for Security Studies at the University for Continuing Education Krems
Security has always been a human need and is a central prerequisite for the functioning of any society. In Maslow's pyramid of needs, it occupies a central position among the basic needs and forms the basis for individual well-being and social stability. Historically, however, security has always been a field of tension between protection and freedom - a tension that is still of central importance today and shapes the core issues of modern security research.
The dynamic developments of the globalized world and the rapid technological transformation are placing security as a social good at the center of scientific and practical discourse. The Department for Security Studies is dedicated to these central issues with an interdisciplinary approach that integrates economic, social science, technical, fire protection and political science perspectives in order to holistically grasp security challenges and develop innovative, forward-looking solutions.
MISSION
“Our aim is to contribute to a safe and sustainable society through interdisciplinary research, innovative teaching and practical solutions.”

”
„Security is as diverse as society itself. Globalization, terror, migration, AI and digitalization are changing structures and creating uncertainties. Solutions require trust and constructive dialog.“
