Since 2002, the Center for Visual Studies at the University of Continuing Education Krems has seen itself as a transdisciplinary response to the digital flood of images of our time, analyzing transformation processes in culture, science and political iconography. In its research, the Center for Image Studies deals with the image worlds of the digital present and the past in close cooperation with cultural institutions as well as national and international scientists and artists.

With online image and video archives as well as new analysis methods, the image-related digital humanities in particular are being further developed. To this end, we work very closely with artists, museums, archives and other cultural institutions. In addition to global topics, Austrian art and image history is also taken into account.
