The research project “TuneOurBlock” has been exploring the potential and challenges of the Superblocks concept for nearly three years. After two successful conferences in Barcelona and Berlin, the project consortium hosted an event in Vienna on April 29-30, 2024, to ensure the project’s lasting contribution to urban sustainability transformations. Stefanie Kotrba, a member of the PopUpUrbanSpaces project team at the Department for Building and Environment, took part in the event.
The program of the International Superblock Meeting (ISM) in Vienna included results and lessons learned from the TuneOurBlock project, but focused on the work of urban actors across Europe. The event brought together urban actors from the public, private and civil society sectors to learn from each other, discuss tactical urbanism and citizen participation, among other topics, and strengthen support networks. An excursion to the Favoriten super block rounded off the program.
