Modern production facilities and infrastructures contribute to the unnecessary waste of resources and thus to greenhouse gas emissions in several ways. The biggest challenge today is to find and capture all the different sources of waste. The typical production plant is very complex, consisting of several thousand different components and machines. A complex infrastructure is needed to run the production processes (e.g., steam, compressed air).

AI-RoboSens will make it possible to fully automate the detection of waste sources in industrial plants, significantly reducing the effort required for identification. This is done by using a modern and highly mobile robot (Spot from Boston Dynamics) equipped with a variety of sensors (e.g., ultrasonic sensor, infrared camera, microphone, gas sensor). Based on a multi-sensory approach, the project will focus on the development of artificial intelligence that can fully automatically identify unnecessary waste of valuable resources in real time and around the clock. This information will serve as a decision-making basis for the maintenance department to take appropriate countermeasures and savings.
