The Center for Experimental Medicine aims at unraveling the biological principles of regeneration and degeneration.  Stem cell research holds tremendous promise for potential medical treatments in order to counteract degeneration to modulate inflammation associated with tissue destruction or even to regenerate damaged organs. The identification of molecular keys for the conversion of stem cells into lineage specific cells of tissues and organs, knowledge on specific bioactive substances for stem cell communication as well as relevant biophysical stimuli for stem cell integration into niches are fundamental to application of stem cells.

The Center for Experimental Medicine provides the academic infrastructure with state-of-the-art-facilities together with a PhD program ‘Regenerative Medicine’ consisting of both, lectures with coursework and basic research.  The program aims at developing the ability of the students to independently conduct scientific research in the field of tissue and organ regeneration, stem cell research, transplant immunology and mechanobiology.
