Lifelong Learning
The University for Continuing Education (Danube University Krems) is committed to the goals of the European Universities’ Charter on Lifelong Learning because the University has been founded as an institution of continuing education in keeping with the concept of Lifelong Learning (LLL).
The founding principle, strategy and subsequent development of the University for Continuing Education Krems are fully in concurrence with the concept of lifelong learning.
The University for Continuing Education has avowed itself to the goals of a transparent, competence-oriented education system, as the hitherto regular course of education and training which consisted of secondary school, university, and entry into professional life, is being increasingly replaced by more variable and atypical courses of education and career. The university environment now accommodates students from various countries with different types of preceding education and diverse needs.
The courses offered at the University for Continuing Education Krems, which specifically address academics, executives and skilled persons, combine the current level of science with the requirements of professional practice. They communicate competence in one's speciality as well as enhance social skills. This is achieved by research-driven teaching ("Research for Professional Excellence"), a large number of lecturers with several years of teaching experience, and with clear focus on the feasibility of what one has learned while ensuring that the student is able to apply the taught material to similar real-life situations. The courses are marked by a high degree of interdisciplinarity and specific focus on the requirements of working persons. This includes a high degree of service and quality orientation in all areas of the University and the implementation of the basic philosophy in specific courses, the design of the University courses, and a flexible and creative learning environment (modularisation, block courses, e-learning, etc).
The demographic and (inter-)cultural dimension of LLL is taken into account by creating or adapting new and specialized subjects of focus.
