The Department for Clinical Neurosciences and Preventive Medicine was established in 2006 and developed from the previous Department of Environmental and Biomedical Sciences. This new department became necessary because of the high numbers of students and of the need for specialization.
The Department for Clinical Neurosciences and Preventive Medicine has the task to promote continuing medical education in all clinical areas and to develop a focus in the area of prevention.
According to the general mission of Danube University Krems postgraduate continuing education should involve all areas of medicine with emphasis on research and teaching in areas with special needs. This emphasis includes teaching projects in general postgraduate education for medical doctors, for the large areas of clinical neurosciences including stroke medicine and rehabilitation. The further development of teaching and research will be embraced in an interdisciplinary programme which includes clinically and health policy relevant areas such as clinical epidemiology, general medical prevention and lifestyle medicine as well as the clinical applications of the scientific research consulting from these areas.
