The Department of Higher Education Research is mainly concerned with
- Leadership and management at higher education institutions, with a focus on personnel and organizational development
- Higher education governance and policy reforms, especially in the context of the Third Mission and the social responsibility of the institutions
- Academic continuing education and the role of higher education for lifelong learning
The department pursues a practice-oriented research approach: leaders, practitioners at higher education and research institutions as well as policymakers can use our research results for their own work and as a support to decision-making. In our range of courses, we also transfer the knowledge gained towards research to other areas of education. With the only professorship for "Higher Education Research and Development" in Austria, the Department contributes to the further development of the Austrian higher education system in particular.
