Overview of the selection process

Processes according to §98 UG include:

  • Receipt of applications during the application period
  • After the application deadline, the appointment committee (external and internal professors, academic staff representative, student representative) reviews all application documents
  • Review of the application documents by external reviewers
  • Hearing
    • Public university part: presentation
    • Non-university public part: questioning by the appointment committee
  • Preparation of appointment proposal
  • Start of appointment negotiations by Rector and Dean


Processes according to §99 UG includes:

  • Receipt of applications during the application period
  • After the application deadline, the selection committee (internal professors) reviews all application documents
  • Hearing
    • Public university part: presentation
    • Non-university public part: interview by the selection committee
  • Preparation of appointment proposal
  • Start of appointment negotiations by Rector and Dean


Processes for assistant professorships includes:  

  • Receipt of applications during the application period
  • After the application deadline, the selection and qualification committee (external and internal professors) reviews all application documents 
  • Hearing 
    • Public university part: presentation 
    • Non-university public part: questioning by the appointment committee 
  • Assessment of the application documents by external experts 
  • Preparation of appointment proposal 
  • Start of appointment negotiations by Rector and Dean

Details of the selection processs

1. Submission of applications

  • Applications for professorships must be sent exclusively by e-mail to bewerbung@donau-uni.ac.at.
  • Please always state the reference number of the advert in the subject line of your application e-mail.
  • Include your documents or the documents requested in the advert in the e-mail.
  • Once your application documents have been received and checked, you will receive confirmation that your documents have been received and are complete.

2. Required documents

  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Employment and training certificates/diplomas
  • Ideas for the organisation of the professorship (concept for research, teaching & transfer)
  • List of projects and publications
  • Evaluations of courses
  • Application abstract (you can download the form directly from the advert on the website)
  • Any other documents according to the advert

4. Application period

  • The application period for professorships is at least 3 weeks and can be found in the advert or on the website.
  • Applications can only be accepted during the specified period.
  • If an advert is no longer available on the website, the application period has expired.

5. Feedback

  • The selection committee takes time to carefully review each application.
  • After the application deadline has passed and your documents have been reviewed, we will get back to you with feedback.
