Institutional framework for development of the third mission of universities in Serbia

The necessity to make universities the key drivers of knowledge-based economy and to move them from purely teaching and research institutions towards the entrepreneurial ones, was outlined in many European strategic documents. European Commission also highlights the need for universities to change and to pursue the Third Mission. The third mission encompasses a wide range of activities involving the generation, use, application and exploitation of knowledge and other university capabilities outside academic environments. It generally encompasses three dimensions: technology transfer and innovation, continual education and social engagement.
