On December 6, 2024, the Platform for Sustainable Development (SDGs) and the Research Lab Democracy and Society in Transition, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Austria, hosted Bret Schafer, a leading expert on digital disinformation. The event, held at the University for Continuing Education Krems and streamed online, explored how media manipulation shapes opinion and politics.
Schafer, Senior Fellow at the Alliance for Securing Democracy, shared insights into how state and non-state actors exploit digital platforms to influence public opinion. He also discussed strategies for countering disinformation, emphasizing media literacy and cross-border collaboration. The session sparked thoughtful discussions, highlighting the urgency of addressing disinformation in today’s interconnected world.
